TOEIC Course

Writing and Speaking Intensive (TOEIC)

Course Description

This is a preparatory course for TOEIC, which helps students improve their overall TOEIC test-taking skills and TOEIC score. This course focuses both on thoroughly familiarizing students with the format, level, and content of the TOEIC, and on teaching students strategies for both sections of the examination (Writing and Speaking). Each lesson is organized so that it develops and enhances skills and sub-skills necessary for the different parts of the test (listening, incomplete sentences, text completion, and reading comprehension).

Both the listening and reading components of this TOEIC course provide on-going instruction, review, and practice of English grammar, vocabulary, and general communication.

Listening and Reading Intensive (TOEIC)

Course Description

The listening component of the course focuses on listening practice as prescribed by the course text (audio CDs accompany the course text) and by engaging in semi-structured group discussions. The reading component of the course focuses on reading practice as prescribed by the course text and with supplementary reading materials from other sources provided by the instructor. These may include materials from other TOEIC-related texts, as well as print and audio sources.

Both the listening and reading components of this TOEIC course provide on-going instruction, review, and practice of English grammar, vocabulary, and general communication.

Course Objectives

Students who complete these courses will be able to do the following:

  • Develop a clear understanding of each component of the TOEIC test, as well as its format
  • Study TOEIC-related vocabulary
  • Review advanced English grammar
  • Study detailed strategies to eliminate wrong answers to determine correct answers
  • Attain their ideal TOEIC score
  • Take two complete practice tests (depending on the length of the course) and receive a sample TOEIC score

Course Textbook and Supplementary Sources

The textbook for these courses is Barron's How to Prepare for the TOEIC Test and Barron's 600 Essential Words for the TOEIC, along with supplementary exercises and practice tests from other resources. Other sources include newspapers, on-line news sources, magazines, video, and audio. These may be used to engage students in group discussion and debate.
