Middle School Reading Program
Most reading done by elementary students focuses on reading for literary experiences and reading to acquire and use information. Although the purposes for reading differ, strategies readers use for both are more similar than different.
In our classes, students learn to construct meaning from texts. Some of skills we focus on include:
- Word identification strategies
- Finding details
- Drawing conclusions from inferences
- Understanding the main idea
- Cause and effect
- Sequencing, etc.
Through acquiring reading strategies that are essential in analyzing and evaluating non- fiction and fiction, students develop from passive to active readers.
